Paul Webster

Mr. Paul Webster, Iredell County Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator, was made an Honorary Member of the Iredell County Amateur Radio Society (ICARS) in recognition of his many years of support for the Society, and for the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES).  Mr. Webster is only the fourth person to be so honored in the 35 year history of ICARS, and was presented with his Certificate at the June 9th meeting of the Society.

ICARS has been active in the community since it’s founding in 1976.  In 1978 the Iredell County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ICARES) was formed to provide emergency communications in times of disaster, and to provide communications for community events.

In May, Mr. Craig Fugate, Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), described the Amateur Radio operator as “the ultimate backup”.  He also said “When Everything Else Fails… Amateur Radio oftentimes is our last line of defense.”  This is the mission of ARES, and Mr. Webster’s support and encouragement have helped immeasurably toward this end in Iredell County .

The society meets at 7 p.m. the second Thursday of every month at Julia's Talley House Restaurant in Troutman. Dutch dinner is at 6:30 p.m. Anyone who is interested in amateur radio is invited to attend the meetings. ICARS is a 501 c 3 approved organization. The Society's mailing address is

ICARS, P.O. Box 142, Statesville, NC 28687.
